Therapy Background

Joel Peterson is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas. He has worked in private practice since 2015, helping many clients with pornography addiction. He graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Master’s degree in Biblical Counseling. His professional background includes a variety of settings like church counseling ministry, working alongside counseling pastors, supporting individual and group therapy. He also served as a program therapist, working at an inpatient mental health facility in North Texas, serving individuals and families by restoring relationships in the midst of difficult addictive behaviors. In 2015 Joel served as the Director of Equip the Nations, a wing of Association of Biblical Counselors, where he traveled internationally to teach an introduction to biblical counseling course to pastors in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. Joel has also led marriage weekend group intensives at a local church.

Integrating Christian Counseling into pornography addiction

Joel realized he wanted to become a counselor after he experienced counseling for himself. Seeing people change, little by little, is one of his great joys. Counseling is a process, with highs and lows. Clients may respond differently than how they used too or experience a relationship restored. Caring for clients, helping them experience freedom, is functioning out of God's design.

Joel carefully connects people and their experiences to God and his design for their life. He listens, thinks carefully, down-to-earth personally, and connects truth with love.

Outside of counseling, Joel has written many pornography addiction blogs.
